Not everything there is beautiful—far from it.
But when it exists, bellezza lives in small choices.
In how Italians treat each other.
In how they work with care.
In how they value human growth and dignity.
I spent my career in the NGO world.
For me, this is what human development means:
creating the conditions not just to survive,
but to grow and experience meaningful lives.
Organized crime attacks exactly that.
Through fear and corruption, it steals the future.
It isolates.
It pushes people into silence.
And yet, many resist.
Quietly.
Bravely.
They protect their communities.
They stand together.
They break the omertà.
This, too, is bellezza.
Beatrice isn’t only a figure from the past.
She’s present whenever someone chooses dignity over fear, and the common good over silence.
